Hon. Whingan, who had previously engaged REA through letters and official visits, reiterated the urgency of reconnecting Badagry West to the national grid. Speaking during the oversight visit by the House Committee on Climate Change, the lawmaker emphasized the need for swift intervention, stressing that prolonged darkness has crippled economic activities and worsened living conditions for residents.
During the engagement, the Managing Director of REA, Abba Abubakar Aliu, provided updates on the agency’s ongoing electrification projects, including a nationwide initiative to power 100 communities per state with renewable energy. While acknowledging these efforts, Hon. Whingan insisted that Badagry West must not be left out of such interventions.
“As we advocate for renewable and climate-friendly electrification, it is imperative that underserved communities like Badagry West benefit from these solutions. I have engaged REA repeatedly on this issue, and I will continue to push until power is restored to my constituents,” Hon. Whingan stated.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Badagry West’s electricity challenges are resolved and urged REA to prioritize the area in its upcoming projects. He assured his constituents that he would not relent until their right to stable electricity is restored.
