Looming Rainy Season: Samola Takes Proactive Measure to Clear Canal in Prevention of Flooding

As the rainy season approaches, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (SAMOLA), Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has taken decisive action to prevent potential flooding. On Monday, he personally led a team to clear a major canal along the Oko-Afo-Ilogbo road, a crucial drainage channel that had been completely clogged, posing a severe flood risk to residents.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, SAMOLA’s administration mobilized resources to ensure that water can flow freely, reducing the threat of environmental hazards in the community. This latest intervention aligns with the Chairman’s long-standing commitment to tackling flooding and other infrastructural challenges head-on.

Residents will recall that in 2024, SAMOLA spearheaded a major environmental initiative that saw drainage channels across all five wards of the LCDA desilted. Monday’s exercise marks a continuation of those efforts, reinforcing his administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and property.

Accompanied by members of his cabinet and officials from the Environment Department, Hon. Olatunde emphasized the significance of the project, stating:
"We cannot afford to wait until flooding becomes a crisis. This proactive approach is part of our ongoing strategy to mitigate environmental risks and improve the overall well-being of our people. We remain committed to taking timely action to ensure a safer and healthier community."

With this strategic move, the SAMOLA-led administration once again demonstrates its dedication to sustainable development and proactive governance, ensuring that Olorunda LCDA is well-prepared for the rainy season.
