The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Onilude, has declared his readiness to serve as the Governor of Lagos State come 2027, making a strong case for the long-overdue emergence of a governor from the Badagry Division.

Speaking on a Yoruba-language podcast titled Kansu Wa, Onilude was asked about his political future as he nears the end of his second and final term in office. In a statement laced with humor but underscored by seriousness, the council boss said he is prepared to take on any leadership role that benefits the people of Badagry — including the governorship of Lagos State.

“I am ready to serve my people in any capacity available, even as the Governor of Lagos State,” Onilude said. “Among the five divisions that form the IBILE acronym — Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe — only Badagry has never produced a governor. It is only fair that the All Progressives Congress (APC) considers Badagry in 2027.”

While his tone was partly satirical, the message was clear and strategic: Badagry, a key component of Lagos’ historical and political landscape, deserves representation at the highest level of state governance.

Onilude’s comments come amid growing conversations around equity and zoning within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. His declaration is expected to energize political discourse in the Lagos West Senatorial District and may catalyze a broader movement advocating for a governor of Badagry extraction.

Political observers believe that while the 2027 race remains a few years away, such early declarations — even satirical in tone — often serve as calculated signals in Nigeria’s complex political arena.

  2. This man is actually given impression that the present serving chairmen in Lagos are actually rish and well to do, saying you would contest for the next gubernatorial post is an invite from the EFCC to investigate you, get to work and do some tidy ups

    1. How does being ready to serve at any position including including as the givernor amount to being rich. He's was only expressing his wish, which anyone could do. Even you, if Asiwaju picks interest in you today as the next governor of Lagos State, it does not require you spend your personal fund. You'll automatically become the liability of the party. It an expression of wish and advocacy for Badagry Governorship Ambition.
