Policeman Stabs Man Over Girlfriend, Victim’s Daughter Alleges Cover-Up

A disturbing incident in Ise-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has sparked outrage after a police officer allegedly stabbed a man during a confrontation rooted in a personal dispute involving the officer’s girlfriend. The victim’s daughter has further alleged that the Ekiti State Police Command is attempting to cover up the case.

According to a viral video posted on social media and monitored by Badagry Today, the daughter of the victim accused the police officer—reportedly serving as an orderly to a local government chairman—of violently attacking her father at their residence after a quarrel involving the officer’s girlfriend and her younger brother.

“He went on to stab my dad with his fellow police officer because his girlfriend was arguing with my brother at school. They went to our house to deal with my brother, but on getting there, they didn’t meet my brother; they met my dad and elder brother,” the girl stated in the emotional video shared on Friday via Yoruba Times on X.

The young lady also alleged that the offending officer was still moving around freely after the incident, accusing the police of shielding him from justice.

In response, the Ekiti State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Abutu Sunday, issued a statement on Friday acknowledging the incident. He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for a comprehensive probe.

“The officer in question has been taken into custody for investigation and other necessary actions,” the statement read. “The Command is urging all parties, especially the victim’s family, to remain calm, as nothing short of justice will be delivered.”

As the investigation unfolds, public attention remains fixed on the case, with many calling for transparency and accountability in handling the matter.
