Badagry, Nigeria – November 28, 2024
The training session, which has gathered participants from Badagry Local Government, Olorunda, and Badagry West Local Council Development Areas, is designed to equip local youths with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for producing biogas—a renewable energy source—using organic waste. This initiative is part of Hon. Whingan’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in Badagry, creating job opportunities, and promoting environmental conservation.
During the training, experts from NBRDA are providing insights into the technical aspects of biogas production, including anaerobic digestion, waste management, and the potential for biogas to serve as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fuels. Participants are learning how to convert organic waste into biogas, which can be used for cooking, lighting, and other domestic purposes, thus reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Whingan, represented by the Media Head of his office, Mr. Dansu Peter emphasized the importance of innovation and local solutions to address energy challenges, particularly in rural communities. He encouraged the participants to take advantage of the training and become ambassadors for sustainable energy practices within their communities.
“The knowledge gained from this training will not only improve the livelihoods of participants but also contribute to reducing environmental pollution by harnessing waste materials for productive use,” said Whingan. “I believe that through initiatives like this, we can foster a culture of sustainability and create job opportunities for our youth.”
The training also provides an opportunity for networking and collaboration among local stakeholders, community leaders, and youth representatives, further strengthening the foundation for a sustainable and energy-efficient future in Badagry.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Hon. Whingan to promote community development, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability in Badagry Federal Constituency.
