The vibrant town of Badagry came alive yesterday, November 30, as residents, youth groups, and political leaders participated in the highly anticipated Badagry Walk for Fitness. Organized by Hon. Bonu Saanu Solomon, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly for Badagry Constituency 1, the event aimed to spotlight Badagry as a potential top sport tourism destination in Nigeria.

The fitness walk, which started at Badagry Roundabout and ended at the picturesque Suntan Beach, drew hundreds of participants. It featured games, entertainment, and other recreational activities designed to promote health, unity, and tourism in the historic town.

In an appreciation message shared on his Facebook page, Hon. Bonu expressed gratitude to notable dignitaries, youth leaders, and political groups who supported and joined the event. He acknowledged Hon. Desmond Elliot, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, and Mr. David Ogungbe, Registrar of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), among others.

“I’d like to specially thank my brother Desmond Elliot, David Ogungbe, Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, and Mr. Ope Oloko for their incredible support,” Hon. Bonu stated. “I also appreciate the proactive efforts of the DPO Badagry/Seme, the Federal Road Safety Corps, military personnel from Topo Barracks, and the Lagos State Sports Commission representatives.”

He also praised the local government leaders, including Chairmen Gbenu Joseph Henugbe (Badagry West LCDA), Onilude Segun Adeniran (Badagry Local Government), and Olorunda Olatunde Samson, for their contributions to the event.

Hon. Bonu highlighted the event's broader vision, stating, “Our dream is to make Badagry one of the top sport tourism destinations, and together, we can achieve this goal.”

Looking forward, Hon. Bonu revealed plans to make the next edition of the fitness walk even more glamorous. He promised the inclusion of high-profile dignitaries such as Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa. Entertainment industry stars are also expected to participate in the future.

Prominent attendees at the event included Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Barr. Kappo Sunday (Member, Lagos State Audit Commission), Mrs. Ronke Ogabi (Former Commissioner, Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch), and entertainer Famous SCOPE.

The Badagry Walk for Fitness, with its combination of exercise, fun, and community spirit, is set to become a flagship event, positioning Badagry as a premier sport tourism hub in Nigeria.
