In a swift response to the lingering electricity crisis in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, yesterday, December 4th, 2024 led by Hon. Sabur Olúwa, conducted an oversight visit to the area today. This visit, facilitated by Hon. Solomon Bonu of Badagry Constituency 1, came barely 24 hours after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed the Lagos Electricity Law 2024 into effect.
The visit aimed to evaluate the persistent power outage challenges facing the LCDA and explore actionable solutions. It underscores the Assembly's commitment to addressing critical infrastructure deficits and ensuring residents of Lagos State enjoy uninterrupted electricity supply.
The Committee was received by a delegation of local leaders and government officials, including Hon. Gbenu Joseph Henugbe, Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, and Councilor's, Hon. Agoro and Hon. Abu Oriyomi, among others. Together with Hon. Bonu, they provided detailed insights into the impact of the electricity crisis on the lives and economic activities of the community.
Hon. Olúwa emphasized that the oversight visit is integral to the Assembly's oversight responsibilities, allowing lawmakers to gain firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by communities. "This visit is not just about understanding the issues but also about finding long-term solutions that align with the Lagos Electricity Law 2024, which seeks to revolutionize power distribution across the state," he said.
Hon. Bonu expressed optimism that the Assembly's intervention would bring relief to the affected residents. "The people of Badagry West deserve better, and we are committed to ensuring their voices are heard and their issues resolved," he stated.
The Committee is expected to compile its findings and present recommendations to the Assembly, paving the way for immediate interventions and strategic investments in power infrastructure.
The visit highlights the Lagos State government's resolve to tackle electricity challenges head-on, fostering development and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
Similarly, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, moved a motion of urgent public importance during the House plenary, calling for the immediate restoration of electricity in Badagry West, one of the councils in his constituency
