The Federal Government said it has begun the first 120 km construction of Sokoto-Badagry expressway from Sokoto. The Minister of Sen. Dave Umahi disclosed this on Saturday in Lagos.

The Minister said in a press release, "It has been procured, and work is going on by Hitech, using concrete. Then, you have the Kebbi section, 250 km. Work is also going on there."

"We believe strongly that we will be able to have about 20 km in both sections to commission by May 29, 2025,”

Sen. Umahi said that the Federal Government was sure that it would also inaugurate the first 20 km in Section One and 10 km in Section Two of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on May 29, 2025.

The minister commended the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the area of funding of the projects in spite of his interventions in other critical priority sectors of the economy.

"The President has given very serious attention to road infrastructure,” he said.

Umahi also praised Tinubu’s vision in initiating legacy projects that would connect the critical economic corridors and boost the transport ecosystem in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

“This coastal highway and, of course, the four legacy projects all have train tracks incorporated.

“The construction of the train track for this section is going to take off in 2025, and we believe strongly that the President is going to give Nigerians the road infrastructure that they have been yearning for.”

He said that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would accommodate landmark features that would add value to its socio-economic potential.

“We are going to plant trees, and, of course, we are also going to have some lay bay.

“We can decide that in every five kilometres, we have a lay bay where we connect all our CCTV cameras, and then we have vehicles and the security within the cabin there, so that the response time will be like 10 minutes,” he said.
