hompson Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II Gmira Aboribo, were detained following a preliminary investigation into the incident.

The arrest was disclosed by Comptroller Kayode Kolade, Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Seme Command, during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters at the Seme-Krake Border on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. The CAC, represented by Deputy Comptroller of Enforcement Istafanus Musa, condemned the officers' actions, emphasizing that such behavior does not align with the service’s standards of integrity and professionalism.

“The act displayed by these officers is unacceptable and does not reflect the professional practice of the Nigeria Customs Service,” Musa stated. “The service remains committed to holding its officers accountable and ensuring they uphold the highest standards.”

The arrested officers are set to be handed over to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation. Comptroller Kolade also revealed that the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has ordered a full-scale investigation and disciplinary measures at the NCS headquarters.

The CAC urged complainants and witnesses to cooperate with the investigation by providing relevant information. He reaffirmed the NCS’s dedication to transparency, professionalism, and the welfare of Nigerians.

“The Nigeria Customs Service will continue to prioritize its operational mandates with integrity and will not condone any acts that undermine public trust,” he concluded.

This incident underscores the NCS’s commitment to addressing misconduct and ensuring accountability within its ranks.
