The Nigerian Army has arrested a soldier involved in a viral video showing the assault of two residents in Badagry, Lagos State. In the video, the soldiers and two Customs officers, who have also been arrested, are seen assaulting two civilians at a checkpoint on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
In response to the public outcry following the viral video, the Nigerian Army announced that the soldiers involved in the incident have been apprehended and will face appropriate disciplinary action.
The Army issued a statement confirming the arrests: “After a preliminary investigation, the Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that it has identified and arrested the soldiers involved in the unprofessional treatment of two civilians in the unfortunate incident that occurred in Badagry, Lagos State, as shown in the viral video.”
The statement further added, “A comprehensive military police investigation of the suspects is ongoing. Be assured that justice will be served accordingly.”
The video, which went viral on social media, showed soldiers manhandling civilians, prompting widespread condemnation.
The incident reportedly took place in the Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Earlier, Badagry Today reported that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, had also apprehended two officers involved in the assault. The officers, identified as Superintendent of Customs Thompson Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II Gmira Aboribo, were detained following a preliminary investigation into the incident.
