A bloody confrontation between two notorious bandit factions, Yan Kambari and the loyalists of the late Usman Modi Modi, erupted yesterday evening, leaving several top terrorist leaders dead and intensifying the ongoing security crisis in the region, Political Affairs Int reports.

According to our source, the clash occurred in Safana Local Government Area (LGA) during an attack by the Yan Kambari group on the residence of Harisu, a key figure in the opposing faction. The attackers reportedly inflicted heavy casualties, seizing cattle and retreating with their loot.

Key Leaders Killed

Among the prominent casualties were Nasiru Bosho, the leader of bandit operations in Safana LGA and the head of Dogon Marke Camp. Known for his control over weapons left behind by the late Usman Modi Modi, Bosho was confirmed dead during the confrontation. Also dead was Bala Yatsa, the infamously known as the man who killed Usman Modi Modi months ago. His death marks the end of his reign of terror. Audu Mankare reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, with the bullet exiting through his back. Reports suggest he likely succumbed to his injuries.

Escalation of Violence

The conflict stems from a long-standing feud between the Yan Kambari group and the followers of Usman Modi Modi. Yan Kambari had previously claimed responsibility for killing Modi Modi, further deepening the animosity between the factions.

In a bid to turn the tide, reinforcements from neighboring Zamfara State have reportedly arrived to support one of the factions, signaling a potential escalation in the violence.

Warnings to Villagers

In the aftermath of the clash, the terrorists issued warnings to villagers in the area, instructing them to remain indoors. They emphasized that the fight is solely between bandit groups and declared that anyone found outside would face the consequences.

Security Implications

The Safana region, like much of Katsina State, has been a hotspot for banditry and terrorism, with rival factions vying for dominance. The deaths of key leaders may temporarily weaken the groups but could also lead to further power struggles and retaliatory attacks.

Local security forces and authorities are urged to intensify efforts to address the growing insecurity and protect civilians caught in the crossfire of these violent rivalries.

This latest clash underscores the urgent need for a coordinated response to curb the activities of these criminal elements that continue to destabilize the region.
