Speaking during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye, the minister described Seyi Tinubu as a leader and mentor with a proven track record of youth empowerment. Olawande expressed confidence in his readiness to lead, citing his qualifications, dedication, and proactive contributions to the development of young Nigerians.
“He is not too young to become a governor; that’s the truth,” Olawande said. “Everybody has the tendency to become whatever they aspire to be. Seyi Tinubu is a well-trained young man who has built and inspired massive numbers of young people, even before his father became president.”
The minister also emphasized Seyi Tinubu’s commitment to creating opportunities for Nigerian youth, noting that he has remained actively involved in grassroots initiatives. “As the President’s son, he is not away in the United States or somewhere else enjoying himself. He is here, doing the work and ensuring that things improve for the young people of this country,” Olawande added.
This endorsement comes weeks after the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) publicly backed Seyi Tinubu as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. However, Olawande was quick to clarify that Seyi is not actively pursuing or orchestrating any campaign for the governorship position. “Seyi is not the one engineering the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” he stated.
The mention of Seyi Tinubu in the political discourse has reignited debates among Lagosians and political stakeholders about youth leadership and the future of governance in the state. While some view his potential candidacy as a fresh perspective for Lagos, others raise questions about his qualifications and readiness to navigate the complexities of the state’s governance.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, conversations surrounding Seyi Tinubu’s political trajectory are expected to intensify, with supporters and critics closely monitoring the unfolding developments in Lagos’ political landscape.
