Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende,  Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development has through the ministry expressed deep concern over the alleged physical abuse of a 3-year-old pupil by a teacher at a school in Ikorodu. The Ministry, commending members of the public for bringing the incident to light, assured citizens that immediate steps have been taken to address the matter.  

The teacher implicated in the case has been arrested by officers of the Owutu Family Support Unit (FSU), and investigations are actively underway. Meanwhile, the child is receiving medical care at the Ikorodu General Hospital. The Ministry is collaborating closely with the police and other relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and that justice is served.  

In a statement shared by Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Commissioner, the Ministry emphasized that schools must remain safe and nurturing environments for children, highlighting the critical need for vigilance and accountability in safeguarding the welfare of minors. The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all children within the state through stringent regulations and zero tolerance for abuse.  

“This unfortunate incident underscores the necessity of holding offenders accountable and implementing measures to prevent such occurrences,” the Ministry stated.  

The government also called on the public to promptly report any suspected cases of child abuse, emphasizing that ensuring the safety and well-being of children is a shared responsibility.  

As investigations continue, the Ministry pledged to work with stakeholders to uphold the rights and welfare of every child in Lagos State.
