Aregbesola, who led Osun State for eight years, had formed a faction within the APC known as The Osun Progressives (TOP), now rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus. The group was accused of contributing to the party’s defeat in the 2022 governorship election.
On Sunday, the Omoluabi Caucus, under Aregbesola’s leadership, announced its departure from the APC, citing the party’s waning influence in Osun State.
The APC in a letter, titled "Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You", formally conveyed Aregbesola’s expulsion. The party found him guilty of working against its interests.
“The State Executive Committee (SEC), after reviewing the findings of the Disciplinary Committee, resolved to accept the recommendation for your immediate expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the letter read.
It further stated, “The decision was based on clear evidence that your actions undermined the unity and integrity of the party, violating Article 21 of the APC Constitution, which governs the conduct and discipline of members.”
“With this expulsion, you are no longer a member of the APC and are prohibited from representing or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.”
Despite the expulsion, the APC acknowledged Aregbesola’s past contributions to the party and urged him to respect the decision.
