Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially presented the staff and instrument of office to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade. The brief but symbolic ceremony took place on Monday at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, as well as several High Chiefs from Oyo Town and religious leaders.
Notably present was the Awise Awo Agbaye, Professor Wande Abimbola, a revered custodian of the Ifa tradition, who played a key role in the selection process through Ifa divination.
However, members of the Oyomesi, the traditional council responsible for selecting the Alaafin, were conspicuously absent from the ceremony.
Governor Makinde’s presentation of the staff of office to Oba Owoade marks the formal recognition of his ascension to the throne as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
