The Lagos State House of Assembly, under the leadership of its newly inaugurated Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has unveiled a fresh lineup of principal officers, marking a significant shift in the legislative body's leadership structure. The appointments were confirmed during a plenary session held on Friday.
The new principal officers include:
- Hon. Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1) as Majority Leader
- Hon. David Setonji (Badagry 2) as Chief Whip
- Hon. Sanni Babatunde (Kosofe 1) as Deputy Chief Whip
- Hon. Richard Kasumu (Ikeja 2) as Deputy Majority Leader
These appointments follow a week of dramatic changes within the Assembly. Earlier, the House impeached its former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, over alleged statutory and financial misconduct. The newly appointed Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, who previously served as Deputy Speaker and represents Apapa Constituency 1, was sworn in to replace him.
The latest leadership appointments are expected to set the tone for a new chapter in the legislative process, with the Assembly aiming to focus on stability and progressive governance for Lagos State.
