In a decisive operation, operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued Mrs. Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, from her abductors. The operation, which took place in the early hours of January 23, 2025, also led to the neutralization of two kidnappers, while others fled.
The incident began on January 16, 2025, when four armed men abducted Mrs. Odumosu outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State. The assailants, masked and heavily armed, forced her out of her Lexus Jeep, triggering a swift response from the police anti-kidnapping unit.
With support from the Force Headquarters’ technical intelligence team, the Ogun State Police launched an intensive surveillance operation. Following credible intelligence, the operatives raided a swampy creek in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where the kidnappers were reportedly regrouping.
During the operation, a fierce gunfight ensued, resulting in the neutralization of two suspects. Four others managed to escape, abandoning weapons and ransom money. Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with her family after undergoing a medical evaluation.
Items recovered from the scene include four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel guns, several rounds of ammunition, and ₦10 million in cash, believed to be the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their professionalism and bravery. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to eradicating kidnapping and violent crimes across the country.
This successful operation underscores the police’s resolve to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
