The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a couple, Lukman Isiaka (42) and Abosede Olanipekun (23), for allegedly abducting children across Ondo and Osun states. In a breakthrough operation, the police successfully rescued 10 children believed to have been stolen by the suspects.

However, the discovery has brought mixed emotions, as several parents, who thronged the command’s headquarters, lamented the continued disappearance of their children.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects sold each abducted child for ₦1 million to a 62-year-old woman, Sabina Izuorah, residing in Ihiala, Anambra State. Authorities believe the couple’s criminal activities may have begun in Edo State before spreading to Ondo and Osun states.

Shockingly, many of the rescued children struggled to recognize their biological parents due to the trauma of abduction. Their names had been changed, and they now spoke the Igbo dialect. Among the children recovered were four infants, aged between one and six weeks, whose parents remain unidentified.

The suspects’ arrest followed an investigation into the disappearance of a child reported missing by her mother. Isiaka, posing as Samuel Adejobi, had feigned romantic interest in the mother and introduced his wife, Abosede, as his sister, Ewatomi.

In an orchestrated plan, Isiaka lured the woman with promises of buying her a phone. Leaving the child with his “sister,” he and Abosede vanished with the child. The distraught mother raised the alarm, leading the police to track the couple to their hideout in Edo State.

The Ondo State Police Command has intensified efforts to locate more missing children and dismantle the syndicate. Sabina Izuorah, who received the stolen children, is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged parents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly as efforts continue to reunite the rescued children with their families.
