Church Celebrates 20 Virgin Teenagers

The Wenchi West District of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Bono Region of Ghana has honored 20 teenage girls, aged 13 to 16, for maintaining their virginity.

The recognition took place during a thanksgiving service over the weekend, coinciding with the church's observance of the first Sabbath of the year. Each girl received an undisclosed cash reward for her dedication to moral discipline and commitment to purity.

Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, commended the teenagers for their steadfastness, urging them to remain committed to their values. "God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anyone to lure or break your virginity until you marry," she advised, while also cautioning them to choose their friends wisely in the coming year.

Mrs. Poku highlighted the ministry’s dedication to shaping young women into responsible adults and called for a revival of traditional customs like the Bragoro and Dipo puberty rites, which she said were effective in reducing teenage pregnancies and promoting the holistic development of girls.

Associate Pastor of the Wenchi West District SDA Church, Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, also applauded the girls, encouraging them to stay focused on their education and personal growth.

The honored teenagers expressed their gratitude to the church for the recognition, stating that the support inspires them to continue upholding the values instilled in them.
