The Lagos State Government has introduced the Eko Learners’ Support programme, an innovative online coaching platform aimed at enhancing the academic success of students preparing for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
Unveiled at the Lagos Education Resource Centre on Tuesday, the initiative was announced by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun. He described the programme as a comprehensive solution tailored to empower students through digital and television-based learning.
According to Alli-Balogun, the programme features 320 lessons covering 10 key subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, History, Literature-in-English, and Yoruba.
“These lessons will be broadcast on Lagos Television and other social media platforms, featuring proficient teachers who have undergone rigorous screening,” the commissioner stated.
Key Features of the Programme
- Duration and Format: The 26-week programme includes 30-minute lessons delivered sequentially.
- Access Points: Lessons will be archived on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
- Interactive Learning: Students can engage privately with resources, provide feedback, ask questions, and collaborate with peers and teachers.
- Syllabus Alignment: Lessons align with Lagos State’s approved Scheme of Work and the WAEC/NECO syllabus.
Alli-Balogun urged students to take full advantage of the initiative, emphasizing that dedication and perseverance are crucial for academic success.
“This programme represents our commitment to supporting students on their educational journey. It ensures they have the resources to achieve their dreams,” he said.
The Eko Learners’ Support programme builds on Lagos State’s reputation for pioneering education initiatives, including the internationally recognized EKOEXCEL programme. With this latest effort, the government aims to make quality education accessible to all, leveraging technology to foster academic excellence.
As students prepare for critical examinations, the government’s initiative underscores the importance of lifelong learning and collaboration. The programme is expected to provide learners with the tools to excel and contribute to the state’s legacy of educational innovation.
