The victims, identified as 70-year-old Mr. Aghanti and his daughter, Mrs. Atagoshi, 50, were reportedly lured into the bush by their assailant under the pretext of resolving a land ownership disagreement. Mrs. Atagoshi, a secondary school teacher and wife of a pastor, had earlier purchased the disputed land, which some individuals contested.
Delta State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, revealed that the suspect executed the heinous act after deceiving the victims into believing he wanted an amicable resolution.
“The suspect called the woman, saying he wanted to discuss the land issue. He then took her and her father into the bush, killed them, and beheaded them,” Edafe explained.
On the same day, community vigilantes apprehended a man identified as Emeke, who was found in possession of two human heads. The discovery enraged residents, who mobbed and set him ablaze. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the heads belonged to Mr. Aghanti and his daughter.
“Their headless bodies were later recovered in the bush,” Edafe stated, adding that the primary suspect is still at large while efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
The chilling incident has left the community in shock, with calls for justice and heightened security in the area.
