"Breaking: Lagos State Governor @jidesanwoolu today signs the 2025 Appropriation bill to Law. The budget size is N3.366 trillion meant for the continuation of the great works of the Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat administration," Akosile wrote.
The budget, originally proposed at N3.01 trillion, saw an increase of N360.88 billion after deliberations by the State House of Assembly. The approved allocation designates N1.3 trillion for recurrent expenditures and N2.07 trillion for capital projects, with the fiscal year set to conclude on December 31, 2025.
However, as Lagosians anticipate the implementation of the budget, questions linger about the fate of Badagry, a division that has long suffered from inadequate infrastructure. Residents have repeatedly called for urgent attention to the deplorable state of several major roads, including the Mowo-Ikoga-Zebbe Road, Iyaafin Road, and the uncompleted Mosafejo-Mowo-Agemowo Road. Other critical routes, such as Ikoga-Erekiti-Ajara Road, also remain in dire need of rehabilitation.
Adding to the division's woes is the persistent blackout affecting communities such as Badagry West, Iragon, and Thogli-Lagon, where dilapidated power infrastructure has left residents in darkness for years.
For decades, Badagry residents have groaned under the weight of neglected infrastructure, which has stifled economic growth and hampered access to essential services. The signing of the 2025 budget offers a glimmer of hope, with expectations that the Sanwo-Olu administration will prioritize developmental interventions in the area.
Stakeholders and community leaders are urging the state government to allocate a significant portion of the capital expenditure to addressing Badagry’s pressing needs. These include the completion of abandoned road projects, restoration of electricity, and a broader focus on improving the division's overall infrastructure.
As the state government begins implementing the 2025 budget, the residents of Badagry wait with bated breath, hoping that this financial blueprint will finally deliver much-needed relief to their long-suffering communities.
