Mudashiru Obasa returns

In a dramatic show of solidarity, supporters of the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, have gathered at the Speaker’s Lodge on Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, this Saturday morning.

Donning vests and caps adorned with pro-Obasa slogans, the crowd arrived in large numbers to express their unwavering support for the embattled lawmaker. The event follows the controversial decision by a majority of the Assembly members to remove Obasa from office, replacing him with Mojisola Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker.

Insiders reveal that the gathering aims to stage a "heroic welcome" for Obasa, who is believed to have been out of the country when his impeachment occurred. The move has sparked mixed reactions, particularly as Obasa is no longer officially entitled to the Speaker's Lodge, raising questions about the use of the premises for such a display.

“I’m surprised the lodge is being used for this purpose,” a local resident commented, reflecting the unease among some in the neighborhood.

Since his impeachment, Obasa has been notably absent from the Assembly, where Mojisola Meranda has already presided over two sittings. The public show of support underscores the deep divisions within Lagos State’s political arena, with observers closely monitoring the implications of the unfolding saga.

As the drama continues to unfold, Lagosians are left anticipating the next chapter in this high-stakes political confrontation.
