Efforts by Obasa, who is currently in the United States, to salvage his political fortunes appear to have hit a brick wall. Reports indicate that his attempt to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to meet President Bola Tinubu, who is attending the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, was unsuccessful, as clearance for the meeting was allegedly denied, report by PM. News suggests.
Adding to his woes, the report further stated that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are reportedly stationed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, prepared to detain him upon his return to Nigeria. Fearing imminent arrest, sources suggest Obasa is in no hurry to return home.
Desperate to reclaim his position, Obasa is said to have sought legal counsel on overturning his impeachment. However, his legal advisers reportedly informed him that the process was legally sound and irreversible. Faced with this reality, Obasa has allegedly resigned himself to his fate.
In Agege, Obasa’s political base, efforts to rally constituents and party loyalists to protest his impeachment have failed. Many residents claim they had previously warned him about his alleged misconduct in office and have now refused to back any demonstrations in his defense.
Civil society groups, which Obasa reportedly sidelined during his tenure, have also distanced themselves from the controversy, describing his impeachment as an internal legislative matter.
Within the Agege chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), discontent is reportedly brewing. Prominent members have allegedly called for the resignation of state cabinet officials from the area, accusing them of being part of Obasa’s inner circle.
Obasa’s once-ambitious political movement, branded “Muda Eko Obasa Lagos 2027,” has reportedly collapsed. Party loyalists and supporters have abandoned him, leaving the former speaker politically isolated.
Adding to his troubles, local groups such as the Agege Peoples Front are reportedly compiling a dossier of his alleged assets for submission to the EFCC, further tightening the noose around his career.
What began as a promising political journey for Mudashiru Obasa has quickly unraveled into a cautionary tale of power, alleged misconduct, and downfall. As his legal and political battles intensify, the former speaker faces an uncertain future.
