Sen Obanikoro to chair Sunny Ajose Burial Program

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Senator Musiliu Obanikoro to chair the burial committee tasked with organizing a befitting farewell for the late Pa Akinsanya Sunny Ajose. A former Head of Service during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's tenure as Governor of Lagos State and a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Pa Ajose was a respected leader in Lagos APC and the apex leader of the party in Badagry Federal Constituency.

The appointment was disclosed by Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, who is also a member of the committee. Speaking about the plans, Ogunlende shared that a four-day burial program has been scheduled for February 5th to 8th, 2025, with full details yet to be announced.

In a post on his Facebook page, Ogunlende said:

"As a member of the Lagos APC Committee inaugurated to officially oversee the planning of the burial arrangements for our highly esteemed leader, father, my mentor, and confidant during his lifetime, Late Pa Akinsanya Sunny Ajose (OON), I joined other committee members at our inaugural meeting to finalize plans for his final burial rites."

He added:

"Chaired by one of our distinguished leaders in Lagos West, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the committee, in line with the family, has carefully scheduled the programs for the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th of February. Plans are now in full swing to ensure Baba is accorded a befitting and dignified farewell."

Badagry Today observed that the burial committee includes members of the Lagos State Executive Council (comprising commissioners and special advisers) from the Badagry Division, Local Government/LCDA chairmen in the Badagry Division, state and federal lawmakers representing the Badagry Division, and APC party chairmen from the three councils in Badagry.

Observers have noted that a similar committee, previously constituted by the apex body of APC leaders in Badagry and headed by Hon. Onilude Segun Adeniran, Chairman of Badagry Local Government, was also part of the process. Whether this earlier committee has been dissolved or will collaborate with the newly inaugurated Lagos State APC committee remains unclear.

The passing of Chief Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, announced on January 16, 2025, has left a vacuum in Lagos APC and the Badagry political landscape. Tributes continue to pour in as preparations for the burial of the late leader, described as a father figure and mentor, gain momentum.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his family and loved ones find comfort during this period of mourning and celebration of a life well-lived.
