According to Punch, the Assembly's spokesman, Olukayode Ogundipe, stated that the Assembly would deliberate on the allegations once Obasa is physically present.
“On the other allegations against him, when he is on the ground physically, those ones will be taken care of,” Ogundipe said. He added that reports of questionable expenditures attributed to Obasa have raised concerns that will be addressed during his appearance.
When asked about the likelihood of involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ogundipe, who represents Oshodi Constituency I, explained that the Assembly would decide on the appropriate course of action once the former Speaker returns. “A committee may be set up to investigate, or it may be handled by the leadership of the House. All procedures will be strictly followed,” he noted.
Obasa was removed from his position last week amid allegations of corruption and financial misconduct. However, in a public statement on Saturday, he dismissed the allegations and described his removal as unconstitutional, asserting that he remains the legitimate Speaker of the House.
The Assembly has assured that it will follow due process in addressing the matter as further developments unfold.
