In a swift response to a viral video depicting the assault of a young lady at a boutique at Ultimate Plaza on Broad Street, Lagos Island, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, led a collaborative operation with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident, which reportedly occurred last Friday, involved the boutique's male attendants who were seen jointly assaulting the victim. The video, which sparked outrage on social media, prompted immediate action from the Lagos State Government.

In a statement shared by Mr. Ogunlende on his social media platform, he confirmed the arrest of the suspects and emphasized the administration's commitment to justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals.

“This afternoon, I, along with the rescue team from the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in collaboration with the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), took swift action to visit a boutique on Broad Street, Lagos Island, in response to a video showing the abuse of a young lady, ensuring that justice is served,” Ogunlende stated.

He highlighted that the intervention aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s agenda of promoting gender equality and protecting citizens' rights. “The team’s prompt response underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the rights of all individuals, particularly vulnerable groups, and ensuring access to justice and equal opportunities for all,” he added.

The Commissioner also urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting social infractions. “See something, say something. And when you feel the odds are stacked against you or you feel unsafe or unable to speak up at the scene of injustice, kindly make a video, and rest assured the Lagos State Government will take it up from there,” he said.

The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to ensure appropriate legal actions are taken.

This incident marks yet another demonstration of the Lagos State Government’s resolve to foster a society where justice, equality, and safety are prioritized.
