According to the Western Naval Command's spokesperson, Commander Abdulrasheed Ahmed, the operation was thwarted on Wednesday night following credible intelligence. The FOB Badagry Quick Response Team was promptly deployed to Tongeji Island and conducted a raid at the “Only God Jetty” in Farasime, News Agency of Nigeria reports
Upon sighting Navy personnel, the suspected smugglers attempted to resist but ultimately fled into the nearby bush. The Navy acted with restraint, avoiding the use of firearms to prevent any collateral damage and ensuring the safety of innocent civilians.
Commander Ahmed emphasized that such illegal activities will not deter the Nigerian Navy from fulfilling its constitutional duty to safeguard the nation’s economic interests. He also issued a stern warning to those involved in such activities, urging them to cease their unlawful operations or face legal consequences.
Furthermore, the Navy reassured law-abiding citizens of its commitment to protecting them as they go about their legitimate business.
