Salome reportedly visited Ajayi's residence in the Papalana axis of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, when the tragic event unfolded. Following the crime, Ajayi was arrested at a church in Orozo, Abuja, where he was caught carrying a sack containing Salome’s severed head. Church members, suspicious of the sack's contents, raised an alarm, leading to his arrest after the gruesome discovery.
Ajayi was paraded at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters in Lafia, where weapons allegedly used in the crime, including a knife and machetes, were displayed.
In an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday, Ajayi admitted to the crime, claiming it was not premeditated but stemmed from frustration and jealousy.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time. It’s not something I planned; it happened in the heat of the moment. I discovered she was cheating. I saw her chats with other guys on her phone, and that pushed me to act,” he said.
When asked if he regretted his actions, Ajayi stood firm, showing no remorse.
“I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal. I felt she was hiding things from me and betraying our relationship. In my view, we were compatible, but her actions made me feel justified,” he stated.
Salome, described as a bright and promising individual who worked at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, had her life cut short in a manner that has horrified many. The police have since remanded Ajayi in custody, with investigations ongoing.
The tragic incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with calls for justice and a deeper look into domestic violence and mental health awareness.
