The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday invited two lawmakers from the Lagos State House of Assembly amid the ongoing speakership crisis that led to the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

According to report by Punch Newspaper, the lawmakers invited by the Nigeria's Secret police are  Lanre Afinni, representing Lagos Island Constituency II and Sylvester OGUNKELU of Epe Constituency II. They were summoned for questioning at the DSS office in Magodo, Lagos, report by Punch says.

While the specific reasons for their invitation remain unclear, insiders suggest it is linked to their alleged roles in the political turmoil within the Assembly.

It was gathered that while Ogunkelu was detained by the police, the other lawmaker, Afinni was granted administrative bail over health challenges on Wednesday, report by Sahara Reporters said.

In a show of solidarity, other lawmakers reportedly accompanied the duo to the DSS facility. A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “It was a routine invitation for questioning.”

Obasa was ousted on January 13, 2025, following accusations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. He was replaced by the former Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
