Police with impaired eyes

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked circulating rumours suggesting that a visually impaired officer is among the newly passed-out constables, clarifying that the officer in question was recruited years ago in top physical condition.

In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF explained that the officer sustained a gunshot injury to his left eye during a critical on-duty operation two years ago. The injury, which occurred while the officer courageously carried out his duties, exemplifies the risks officers face in protecting the public.

“The constable joined the Force several years ago after meeting all recruitment criteria, including physical and medical requirements. His current condition is the result of an operational accident, not a pre-existing condition,” the statement read.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining rigorous recruitment standards, ensuring that all enlisted candidates meet the necessary qualifications. It also emphasized the officer’s bravery and dedication, noting that he has received full support during his recovery.

The NPF called on the public and media to refrain from spreading false information that could harm the reputation of its personnel and the integrity of the Force.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to ensure safety and security for all citizens, and every officer plays a vital role in achieving this goal,” the statement concluded.

The Force urged all stakeholders to verify information before dissemination to avoid unnecessary controversy.
