Plane crash in kano

A Max Air aircraft carrying 53 passengers and crew members narrowly avoided disaster on Tuesday night after crash-landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

According to the Guardian News, The Boeing 737-4D7, with registration number 5N-MBD, overshot the runway at approximately 9:15 p.m., suffering a front tire failure upon landing. The aircraft had just completed a flight from Lagos via Abuja when the incident occurred, causing panic among passengers. Emergency exits were immediately deployed, ensuring a swift evacuation.

A senior Max Air official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident, stating that a preliminary investigation suggested a tire burst as the likely cause. However, he noted that statutory aviation regulators, including the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED), had been notified for a detailed probe.

The official expressed regret over the distress experienced by passengers and crew, emphasizing that Max Air remains committed to operational safety and strict adherence to industry regulations.

This incident follows a similar scare involving the airline in December 2024, when a Max Air flight, VM1623 (5N-BBM), made an emergency landing in Maiduguri after an engine fire shortly after takeoff. That flight carried 80 passengers, including Borno State’s Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur.

Aviation authorities are expected to release a comprehensive report on the latest crash-landing after a full investigation. Meanwhile, the airline has assured the public of its commitment to passenger safety.
