In a swift response to public outcry, the Nigeria Police Force has identified and detained a police officer who was captured in a viral video being used as an errand boy during an incident involving the abuse of the naira. The video, shared by the sons of prominent Lagos businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, showed the officer engaging in conduct deemed unethical and unprofessional.
The police, in an official statement, condemned the actions of the officer, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity and core values of the force. “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action. The involvement of the policeman has been condemned as it is unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police,” the statement read.
The video sparked widespread criticism, with many Nigerians expressing their disappointment at the officer’s behavior. The Force assured the public that it is committed to addressing such misconduct and enforcing disciplinary measures to prevent future occurrences.
The naira abuse incident also reignited discussions on the misuse of law enforcement personnel and the need for stricter regulations to uphold their dignity and professionalism.
As investigations continue, the police reiterated their resolve to ensure that officers remain accountable and uphold their duty to serve and protect the public.
