PA Akinsanya Sunny Ajose

Born on February 10, 1946, in Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria, Akinsanya Sunny Ajose was a celebrated public administrator, visionary leader, and statesman whose career spanned decades of impactful service.  

Education 

Ajose's educational journey began in 1954 at Ijaiye Baptist Day School. He completed his primary education at Tinubu Methodist Day School in 1959 and proceeded to Badagry Divisional Grammar School, where he graduated in 1964. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and excellence, he pursued higher education in the United States, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a major in Political Science from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1973. He furthered his studies, obtaining a Master of Arts in Social Science from Governors State University in 1974.  

Professional Career 

Ajose's professional career commenced at IBM Nigeria Ltd, where he served as Personnel Programmes Administrator from 1975 to 1978. His exemplary performance and leadership qualities caught the attention of the Lagos State Government, and in June 1979, he joined the Lagos State Civil Service as an Administrative Officer Grade VI.  

Through unwavering dedication and exceptional service, Ajose rose through the ranks to become the Lagos State Head of Service, a position he held from July 2004 to February 2006 under then-Governor Bola Tinubu. His tenure was marked by reforms and innovations that modernized the state’s civil service. Following his retirement, he was reappointed by Governor Tinubu as Special Adviser, serving until May 2007.  

Contributions to Governance and Public Service  

Ajose’s commitment to governance extended beyond his official roles. In September 2015, he became a member of the Lagos State University Governing Council, where his contributions to academia and institutional development were highly regarded. In 2014, his exceptional service to the nation earned him the prestigious national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).  

Ajose’s enduring influence in Lagos State politics was solidified in September 2022, when he was appointed to the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex political decision-making body in the state. His insights and counsel were invaluable in shaping the policies and direction of Lagos State.

His life and career were defined by an unwavering commitment to the development of Lagos State and the well-being of its people. His legacy lives on as a testament to the transformative power of purposeful leadership and selfless service.
