Omokri drew parallels between Seyi Tinubu’s contributions to his father’s administration and the roles played by children of other world leaders. In a tweet that has sparked both applause and criticism, Omokri highlighted how former U.S. President Donald Trump openly acknowledged his youngest son, Barron Trump, for aiding his campaign’s outreach to Gen Z audiences. Omokri also referenced Ivanka Trump’s high-profile role in her father’s administration, as well as the involvement of other political offspring like George W. Bush, Sir Mark Thatcher, and even Hunter Biden.
According to Omokri, the backlash against Seyi Tinubu is unwarranted. “Seyi Tinubu is an independently successful young man with strong patriotic credentials. He deserves to contribute his quota to the success of his father’s government without being attacked,” Omokri wrote.
He didn’t hold back in addressing critics, suggesting that their disdain might stem from envy or the perceived shortcomings of their own children. “It is not President Tinubu's fault if your own son is busy in London living a life you do not want to be brought into the spotlight or if others have children who are not so independently successful,” he quipped.
The post has ignited mixed reactions online. Supporters applauded Omokri for defending Seyi and highlighting the global norm of family involvement in leadership. Critics, however, accused him of attempting to normalize nepotism and divert attention from pressing national issues.
With Seyi Tinubu taking an increasingly prominent role in his father’s administration, the debate over whether it’s a case of merit or privilege seems far from over. As Reno Omokri aptly put it, “When you elect a President, you also select his family as the First Family, which comes with privileges and responsibilities.”
What’s your take on this? Is Seyi Tinubu simply doing his part, or does his involvement raise questions about fairness and transparency? The gossip mill is watching!
