Last week, Finance Minister Olawale Edun announced that the Federal Government had approved the recruitment of 3,927 officers into the NCS, sparking widespread interest among Nigerians.
Providing an update on the process, Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS National Public Relations Officer (PRO), disclosed that 573,519 candidates have so far applied for the 3,927 available slots.
Breaking down the figures, Maiwada explained that applicants fall under two main categories: general duty officers and support staff professionals.
For the general duty positions:
- Superintendent cadre: 249,218 applications.
- Inspector cadre: 115,634 applications.
- Customs assistants: Two subcategories include candidates with basic five-credit secondary school results (including Maths and English) and those without Maths and English.
In the support staff category:
- Superintendent cadre: 27,722 applications from candidates with HNDs and university degrees.
- Inspector cadre: 12,952 applications from candidates holding NCE or National Diploma certificates.
The overwhelming response highlights the high demand for government employment opportunities in the country.
