WASSCE PC1: WAEC Introduces Instant Resit Option for Failed Subjects

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a groundbreaking initiative, WASSCE PC1, aimed at reducing delays for candidates seeking to retake failed subjects in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

John Kapi, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, announced that the WASSCE PC1 program will provide students in Ghana and other West African countries with an opportunity to resit specific subjects in January and February 2025. This innovation eliminates the traditional waiting period for the next examination cycle, enabling students to quickly improve their grades and maintain their academic progress.

“This initiative offers students a timely opportunity to improve their grades and avoid a year-long academic setback,” Kapi said, describing it as a milestone for education in West Africa.

Registration for WASSCE PC1 is currently open and will close on January 8, 2025. Prospective candidates can register online via WAEC’s official website or through accredited internet cafés. The examinations are scheduled to hold between January 24 and February 15, 2025, and will initially be conducted in regional capitals, given the expected small number of participants in the maiden edition.

Kapi emphasized the accessibility and efficiency of the new system, urging eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity.

In Nigeria, WAEC has also announced that the 2025 WASSCE for private candidates (first series) will take place in February 2025. Registration for this exam closes on Monday, January 6, 2025.

The introduction of WASSCE PC1 marks a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by candidates and ensuring a more flexible and responsive examination process across West Africa.
