Speaking in a telephone interview with Badagry Today, Olonde commended the incumbent chairman, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (Samola), for what he described as "aggressive development" over the past seven and a half years. He also acknowledged the contributions of Hon. Abudu Amida and HRM Oba Olatunji Ogabi, the pioneer chairman of the council.
“A critical look at Olorunda’s infrastructural development under Hon. Samson is commendable. He has constructed roads, built schools and hospitals, and initiated various women and youth empowerment programs,” Olonde stated.
He further emphasized that the achievements of previous leaders, including the past Sole Administrator, Hon. Bolaji Adele Solomon, and former Executive Secretary, Hon. Akin Ajayi, have laid a solid foundation for Olorunda’s growth.
"I will not undo the progress made by my predecessors but rather build on their legacy to achieve even greater advancements for the LCDA," he affirmed.
Olonde, who hails from Ward C, Mowo-Aradagun, also called on the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning the chairmanship position to his ward.
According to him, since the creation of Olorunda LCDA, Ward C has yet to produce a chairman. He noted that Ward A produced HRM Oba Olatunji Ogabi, while Ward B produced Hon. Abudu Amida. In the last dispensation, when it was Ward C’s turn, APC leaders requested that the position be zoned to Ilogbo (Ward D) in honor of the Onilogbo of Ilogbo-Eremi Kingdom.
“It would only be fair to uphold the promise made to Ward C. The people of our ward made a significant sacrifice by supporting Ilogbo’s turn, and now, justice demands that we be given the opportunity we were previously denied,” Olonde argued.
He also dismissed claims that Ward C lacks qualified aspirants, insisting that every aspirant from the ward, including himself, is capable of leading Olorunda LCDA.
As the race for the chairmanship intensifies ahead of the local government elections, Olonde remains optimistic that his vision for continuity and progress will resonate with the electorate and party leaders.
