The Office of the Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly has firmly refuted a recent claim questioning the nationality and place of birth of Hon. Setonji David, describing it as a malicious attempt to discredit the distinguished lawmaker.

In a press statement issued by the office’s spokesman, Posu Davies, the allegations—circulated via social media—were categorically dismissed as false and misleading. The statement specifically addressed a claim in an article titled "LAGOS ASSEMBLY SPEAKERSHIP: OPPOSITION MOUNTS AGAINST SETONJI, OTHERS," which alleged that Hon. Setonji David was originally from the Benin Republic rather than Badagry.

Setting the record straight, the statement reaffirmed that Hon. Setonji David is an indigene of Badagry, Lagos State, born on December 12, 1959, at Agboniganme Compound, Ajara Vetho Badagry. His father, Chief Amos David, was a respected traditional leader, holding the title of Ayino - The First, the first Baale of the entire Vetho Kingdom in Badagry.

“These allegations are not only false but also malicious, aimed at discrediting Hon. Setonji David's reputation,” the statement read, urging the public to disregard the claims and rely on credible sources for information.

The Office of the Chief Whip emphasized Hon. Setonji David’s deep-rooted ties to Lagos State and his unwavering commitment to public service. “Let it be clear that Hon. Setonji David is a proud Lagosian, with a proven track record of service to his community and the state at large. We stand by his integrity and dedication to the people of Lagos State,” the statement concluded.

This strong rebuttal comes amid growing political discussions surrounding the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly, with Hon. Setonji David being considered among key contenders for the Speakership.
