In a bid to enhance food security and support agricultural development, the Comptroller of Immigration at the Seme Border, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, has formally requested land for the Badagry Immigration Command to engage in farming activities. This appeal was made during a courtesy visit by executives of the All Farmers Association Nigeria (AFAN) Badagry Chapter, led by Public Relations Officer Afeez Olumide Garuba.

The meeting, held at the Immigration Command headquarters, centered on addressing key challenges faced by farmers operating near the border, particularly issues of movement and safety. The AFAN delegation praised the Immigration Service’s efforts in maintaining border security while also introducing a new technology-driven ID system to accurately verify members of the association. The initiative received the full support of Comptroller Abdullahi, who further advised farmers to acquire international passports for easier identification.

Highlighting his deep-rooted connection to Badagry, Abdullahi emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the agricultural sector. He stressed that food security is a collective responsibility and that the Immigration Command is willing to contribute to food production if allocated farmland.

“We must not leave food production solely in the hands of farmers. If land is made available to us, we are ready to engage in farming and contribute to ensuring food security,” Abdullahi stated.

The AFAN delegation acknowledged the request and expressed optimism about future cooperation between farmers and the Immigration Service. The meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening ties between the two sectors and finding lasting solutions to challenges faced at the border.

The proposal aligns with broader national efforts to bolster food production and underscores the growing recognition that multiple stakeholders must participate in tackling food security challenges.
