Islamic Cleric Arrested for Alleged Ritual Killing of Final-Year Student in Ilorin

Tragedy struck in Ilorin as police apprehended an Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, for allegedly murdering a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, for ritual purposes.

Investigations revealed that Ballo had connected with Yetunde through Facebook, obtained her phone number, and lured her to his residence. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Sources disclosed that Hafsoh was attending a naming ceremony when she received a phone call from a friend. She stepped away to answer the call but never returned. Efforts by family and friends to locate her proved futile, prompting them to file a missing person report at the Oja Oba Police Station in Ilorin the following day.

Police investigators traced her last phone call, which led them to Ballo’s residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin. Despite initially denying involvement in the disappearance, a search of his home uncovered a horrifying scene—Yetunde’s dismembered body was discovered in a bowl, along with tools suspected to have been used in the crime.

In his defense, Ballo claimed the student had died from an asthma attack at his residence. However, forensic evidence, including a table equipped with dismemberment tools, raised suspicions that this might not have been his first offense.

The suspect, now in custody at the Kwara State Police Headquarters, is reportedly the son of a prominent Islamic cleric from Isalekoto, who recently passed away. Authorities are continuing investigations into the case.
