Musa, who was scheduled to travel to Canada for a veterans’ event, was unexpectedly denied a visa along with some of his colleagues. While some members of the Nigerian delegation were granted entry, others, including the Defence Chief, were barred from attending.
Addressing the issue at the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) event in Abuja, Musa expressed disappointment over the development.
"Every disappointment is a blessing. Yesterday, I was meant to be in Canada for an event to honour our veterans—those injured in battle. We were invited, but while half of our team was granted visas, the other half was denied. It’s very disappointing," he said.
In response to the controversy, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria issued a statement via its official X account, acknowledging the media reports but maintaining its stance on confidentiality.
"The High Commission of Canada in Nigeria is aware of media reports related to planned travel to Canada by senior officials. However, for privacy reasons, we are unable to provide any comment on the status of visa applications of specific individuals," the statement read.
The development has sparked discussions about the diplomatic implications of the visa denial, particularly given Nigeria’s strategic military partnership with Canada.
