The arrests came in response to heightened security concerns at the Assembly complex following a formal request from the Lagos State House of Assembly. A letter dated February 14, 2025, and signed by Acting Clerk A.T.B. Ottun, had called for stricter security measures to prevent unauthorized access.
According to the letter, referenced LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, the DSS was instructed to enforce tight security around the Assembly premises starting February 15, with no specified end date. This move followed reports that the impeached Speaker of the House was planning a return to office on February 18—an action described as a potential flashpoint for further unrest.
While tensions remain high, Assembly officials have denied allegations of firearms being discovered within the premises. Similarly, claims of a mass defection of APC lawmakers to the Labour Party have been refuted.
The identities of those arrested still unknown, but sources indicate that investigations into the crisis are ongoing.
