The proposed legislation aims to create a dedicated funding structure for security-related matters, supplementing the conventional budgetary allocations. Hon. Whingan, who was present at the hearing, emphasized the importance of the initiative in strengthening Nigeria's security framework.
“The bill aims to create a dedicated funding structure for security-related issues beyond the usual budgetary provisions,” he stated in a post shared on his Instagram page.
The hearing brought together key stakeholders from Nigeria's security and intelligence community, including representatives from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Customs Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among others.
The deliberations provided an opportunity for lawmakers and security agencies to engage in discussions on sustainable funding strategies to enhance national security operations. The outcome of the hearing is expected to shape legislative actions towards improving Nigeria's intelligence and defense capabilities.
