No Defection Plan By 27 APC Lawmakers to Labour Party in Lagos State - Lagos Assembly Debunks Report

The Lagos State House of Assembly has firmly denied recent reports alleging that twenty-seven of its members are planning to defect from the ruling party to the opposition Labour Party (LP). In a press statement released on Monday, the Assembly described the publication as "malicious, unfounded, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public."

The statement, signed by Hon. (Otunba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, strongly condemned the report as misleading and aimed at sowing discord among lawmakers and Lagos residents.

“We find this report not only offensive but also riddled with inaccuracies and outright falsehoods that serve no purpose other than to create unnecessary tension and confusion,” the statement read.

The Assembly clarified that the recent leadership changes, including the removal of former Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and the election of Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker, were internal matters conducted in line with constitutional provisions. It emphasized that these changes should not be interpreted as a sign of defection or party disunity.

“The ruling party remains united and focused on delivering its mandate to the people of Lagos State. The falsehood being spread originates from agents of destabilization who seek to create unnecessary division within the Assembly,” the statement continued.

The House further reassured party leaders and supporters that all members remain committed to the party and that any internal disagreements would be resolved through democratic and peaceful mechanisms.

Additionally, the Assembly urged media organizations to uphold journalistic ethics by verifying facts before publication to prevent the spread of misinformation.

This clarification comes amid heightened political tensions in Lagos State, where speculation about party defections has been on the rise. However, the Assembly insists that there is no crisis within its ranks that would necessitate such a move.

The ruling party continues to maintain its majority in the House, reinforcing its stability and commitment to governance in Lagos State.
