Onilude Awards ₦70k, ₦50k Bursaries to 300 Students in Badagry

The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Onilude Olusegun Adeniran, has awarded bursaries to 300 indigent students from various tertiary institutions within the local government area, providing a significant boost to educational support.

The bursary presentation ceremony, held at the council’s conference room, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on students and promoting higher education.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Onilude acknowledged the delay in disbursement, attributing it to unavoidable circumstances despite the committee’s completion of the screening process last year. "I have reviewed the final list and commend the committee for their diligence. All selected students met the established criteria," he assured.

As part of the initiative, students enrolled in engineering, law, and medicine received ₦75,000 each, while those in other fields were granted ₦50,000. The chairman emphasized that the varying bursary amounts reflect differences in tuition fees across disciplines.

Hon. Onilude also highlighted his administration’s consistent efforts in educational development over the past seven years. These include the annual sponsorship of GCE and JAMB forms, as well as the empowerment of graduates through the council’s skill acquisition center.

Supervisor for Education, Hon. (Mrs.) Sewede Pot Balogun, lauded the chairman for his unwavering commitment to education, particularly in light of economic challenges stemming from subsidy removal. She urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds while upholding the community’s values.

The event was attended by key government officials, including Vice Chairman Hon. Elizabeth Kappo, Leader of the House Hon. Akindele Taofik, Secretary to the Local Government Hon. Moses Gbetogo Opa, Council Manager Mrs. Olusanya Mary Abosede, and Council Treasurer Mr. Olugbenga Hunponu, along with department heads and a cross-section of students.

Hon. Onilude’s bursary initiative reinforces the local government’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder students from achieving their educational aspirations.
