Osun Bloody Clash: Five PDP Loyalists Killed, Many Injured – Gov. Adeleke

More reported tragedies struck in Osun State as five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were killed and several others injured in a violent clash over the control of local government areas. Governor Ademola Adeleke blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the bloodshed, accusing the opposition party of orchestrating the deadly chaos.

This is as the earlier report by Badagry Today has it that one of the reinstated Local Government Chairmen, Remi Abass, was shot dead at Irewole Local Government

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke condemned the violence, linking it to an alleged illegal attempt by the APC to forcefully reinstate its sacked local government chairmen.

“PDP lost five members with several others wounded,” Adeleke lamented. “Two of those members are from Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government. Another two were killed in Ola-Oluwa Local Government. One more was lost in Ikire. We must stop this bloodshed.”

He further accused the APC of deploying thugs to unleash terror on innocent PDP members, leading to the tragic loss of lives.

“I equally condole families of victims of the APC’s illegal takeover bid and the chaos they have unleashed across the state,” Adeleke added.

The governor issued a stern directive urging residents to stay away from local government secretariats to prevent further casualties. He stressed that only security operatives should be stationed at the secretariats to maintain order.

“In response to the APC’s illegal actions, I have instructed all Osun residents, regardless of political affiliation, to steer clear of the local government secretariats. Security agencies have been directed to take full control to prevent further violence and safeguard public property,” Adeleke stated.

This development comes a day after the governor accused his predecessor, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of leveraging his close ties with President Bola Tinubu to incite mayhem in the state’s local government areas.

The state remains on edge as security forces work to restore calm amid rising political tensions.
