Engr. Hon. Setonji David (MSc, MBA, MPA) 

Engr. Setonji David (MSc, MBA, MPA, FNSE, FNICE, FNIM), the Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is a distinguished civil engineer and an accomplished legislator with an unwavering commitment to public service. Born on December 12, 1959, in Ajara, Badagry, Lagos State, Engr. David has built a formidable career spanning engineering, environmental sustainability, and governance.  

With over 25 years of service in the Lagos State Government, he played a pivotal role in several landmark infrastructure projects. As Resident and Chief Resident Engineer, he supervised multiple road construction projects across the state. His expertise was instrumental in the Restoration and Stabilization of the Lagos Bar Beach Shoreline Protection Project—a pioneering initiative in Nigeria and the West African subregion. Additionally, he was the pioneer Project Engineer for the renowned Eko Atlantic City reclamation project, further solidifying his reputation as a forward-thinking engineer committed to sustainable development.  

A respected member of the engineering community, Engr. David is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE), and the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM). He is also a COREN-registered engineer who has participated in numerous professional training programs both locally and internationally. His leadership within the profession saw him serve as the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Lagos State Chapter.  

Driven by a deep passion for community development, Engr. David transitioned into politics to contribute meaningfully to governance. He has been representing Badagry Constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly for three consecutive terms. Currently serving as the Chief Whip, he has remained a vocal advocate for infrastructural development, environmental sustainability, and the welfare of his constituents.  

Beyond his professional and political engagements, Engr. Setonji David enjoys lawn tennis, swimming, and reading. He is happily married with children.
