Investigations according to The Nation Newspaper revealed that the Assembly itself had invited security agencies, including the DSS, following credible intelligence of a planned attempt to reinstate the impeached Speaker on February 18, 2025.
A letter dated February 14, 2025, signed by the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. A.T.B. Ottun, and addressed to the DSS Director in Lagos, outlined concerns over a “potential security threat” posed by the planned return of the impeached Speaker. The letter, bearing reference number LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, was also sent to other security agencies in the state.
Titled “Urgent: Enhanced Security Measures for LSHA Premises,” the letter warned that the move could disrupt legislative activities and compromise the safety of members.
“To prevent any breach of security,” the Clerk wrote, “we kindly request the deployment of additional personnel from February 16, 2025, with strict access control within and outside the Assembly premises until further notice.”
This revelation confirms that the DSS and other security agencies were acting on an official request from the Assembly leadership rather than executing an independent operation.
