The newly inaugurated ICT hub is designed to enhance digital learning, foster technological innovation, and support research and development (R&D)—key drivers for Nigeria’s digital economy.
The highlight of the ETC commissioning ceremony was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USPF and OGITECH. This agreement ensures the effective utilization and long-term sustainability of the ICT facility, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and promoting digital inclusion in Nigeria.
Strategically located on the OGITECH campus, the Emerging Technologies Centre is fully equipped with:
- 100 desktop computers with modern software applications
- High-speed internet bandwidth for seamless connectivity
- Advanced digital tools for learning and research
- Emerging technology applications, including artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and cybersecurity
Speaking at the handover event, USPF Secretary, Yomi Arowosafe, emphasized that the ICT Centre is more than just an infrastructure project—it is a strategic investment in the future of Ogun State and Nigeria’s technology-driven economy.
“Under the leadership of the Honorable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, USPF remains committed to expanding ICT access in underserved communities,” Arowosafe stated.
He further highlighted that USPF’s various digital connectivity projects across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones have significantly improved ICT accessibility, contributing to Nigeria’s digital transformation.
With OGITECH’s student population exceeding 9,300, the new technology centre is set to revolutionize education and entrepreneurship within the institution.
- Students will gain hands-on experience in emerging technologies, preparing them for careers in AI, cybersecurity, and big data analytics.
- Faculty members will leverage the facility for tech-driven teaching methodologies and collaborative research.
- Startups and entrepreneurs will benefit from an innovation hub designed to incubate and scale tech-driven businesses.“We expect this centre to significantly impact OGITECH and its wider community, equipping students with critical digital skills and fostering technological advancements in Nigeria,” Arowosafe added.
Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, Rector of OGITECH, expressed profound appreciation to the NCC and USPF for selecting the institute as a beneficiary. He assured that OGITECH will maximize the centre’s potential for educational advancement, research, and economic growth.
“We are committed to ensuring the sustainability of this project and utilizing it effectively for the benefit of our students and the entire community,” he affirmed.
The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to drive ICT penetration in rural, unserved, and underserved areas. Managed by the NCC, the fund is instrumental in ensuring affordable internet access, bridging the digital divide, and fostering inclusive digital development in Nigeria.
With the launch of the Emerging Technologies Centre at OGITECH, USPF continues to empower institutions with innovative ICT solutions, paving the way for Nigeria’s digital transformation and economic growth.
